Most slow WordPress sites on Hostinger aren’t slow because of the server. They’re slow because of an oversized hero image, a page builder loading 40 scripts, and caching that was never switched on. Fix those three things and most sites pass Google’s Core Web Vitals without changing plan.
We build and maintain WordPress sites for businesses in India, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, and many of them run on Hostinger’s WordPress hosting services. We also run paid ad campaigns for clients, and a slow landing page wastes ad money fast. This is the exact checklist we work through, in the order we do it.
First, know what you’re measuring: Core Web Vitals in plain English
Google judges real-user page experience with three metrics. A page passes when at least 75% of visits meet the “good” threshold:
| Metric | What it measures | Good | What usually breaks it |
|---|---|---|---|
| LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) | How fast the main content appears | 2.5 s or less | Huge hero images, slow server response, render-blocking CSS |
| INP (Interaction to Next Paint) | How quickly the page reacts to taps and clicks | 200 ms or less | Heavy JavaScript, chat widgets, tracking scripts |
| CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift) | How much the layout jumps while loading | 0.1 or less | Images without dimensions, late-loading fonts and ads |
Take a baseline before changing anything
- Run your homepage and one key landing page through PageSpeed Insights. Note the field data (real users) separately from the lab score.
- Open Google Search Console → Core Web Vitals to see which URL groups fail on mobile.
- Screenshot both. You’ll want the before-and-after, and so will your client or boss.
Test on mobile. Most Indian traffic is mobile, often on mid-range phones over 4G, and that’s where WordPress sites fail.
Step 1: Get the server basics right in hPanel
Hostinger handles a lot of server-side speed for you, but a few settings are worth checking.
Use the latest supported PHP version
In hPanel, go to your website’s Advanced → PHP Configuration and choose PHP 8.3 or the newest version your theme and plugins support. Newer PHP versions run WordPress noticeably faster than old 7.x versions. Test on a staging copy first if your site uses old plugins.
Turn on server caching
Hostinger’s shared hosting runs on LiteSpeed web servers, which have page caching built in. Make sure the cache is active in hPanel’s performance or cache manager section for your site. On higher Hostinger web hosting plans, you may also find an object cache option; enable it for WooCommerce and membership sites, where database queries are the bottleneck.
Pick the right data centre
If most of your visitors are Indian, your site should be hosted in Hostinger’s India or nearest Asian data centre. You choose this when setting up the site, and you can request a transfer later from hPanel. A server in Europe adds latency to every uncached request from Mumbai or Ahmedabad.
Replace WP-Cron with a real cron job
By default, WordPress runs scheduled tasks on page loads, which can slow down real visitors. Add this line to wp-config.php:
define( ‘DISABLE_WP_CRON’, true );
Then create a cron job in hPanel (Advanced → Cron Jobs) that runs every 15 minutes:
/usr/bin/php /home/u123456789/domains/yourdomain.com/public_html/wp-cron.php >/dev/null 2>&1
Step 2: Configure LiteSpeed Cache properly
On Hostinger, LiteSpeed Cache is the caching plugin to use, because it talks directly to the LiteSpeed server. Remove other caching plugins (WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache, WP Super Cache) first; running two at once causes conflicts.
These are the settings we start with on most business sites:
| LiteSpeed Cache section | Setting | Our default |
|---|---|---|
| Cache | Enable Cache | On |
| Cache | Cache Logged-in Users | Off (unless it’s a membership site) |
| Cache → TTL | Public cache TTL | 604800 (one week) |
| Page Optimization → CSS | CSS Minify | On |
| Page Optimization → CSS | Generate UCSS / Critical CSS | On (uses QUIC.cloud) |
| Page Optimization → JS | JS Minify | On |
| Page Optimization → JS | Load JS Deferred | Deferred (test carefully) |
| Page Optimization → Media | Lazy Load Images | On |
| Image Optimization | Auto request + WebP replacement | On |
| Database | Clean revisions, transients, spam | Run monthly |
Two cautions from experience. Don’t turn on CSS or JS combine on a site built with Elementor or Divi without testing every page, because it often breaks layouts. And always exclude your hero image from lazy loading (more on that below).
After saving, purge all caches, open the site in an incognito window, click through key pages and test any forms and the checkout.
Step 3: Put a CDN in front of your site
A CDN (content delivery network) serves your images, CSS and JavaScript from servers close to each visitor. It matters most if you have visitors outside India, such as the Gulf markets many Gujarat businesses sell into.
You have two good options on Hostinger:
- Hostinger CDN. Included on several Hostinger web hosting plans and switched on from hPanel’s performance section. It’s the simplest choice because it needs no DNS changes.
- Cloudflare (free plan). Point your domain’s nameservers to Cloudflare, keep SSL set to “Full (strict)”, and add a rule so the WordPress admin area and checkout are never cached.
Use one CDN, not both. After enabling it, purge LiteSpeed Cache and the CDN cache together so visitors don’t get mismatched files.
Step 4: Fix LCP: images and the hero section
On most business sites we audit, the LCP element is the hero image or banner. Fix it and LCP usually drops below 2.5 seconds.
- Resize before upload. A hero image rarely needs to be wider than 1,920 px. A 4 MB photo straight from a phone is the most common LCP killer we see.
- Serve WebP or AVIF. LiteSpeed Cache’s image optimisation converts images to WebP automatically.
- Never lazy-load the hero. Lazy loading delays the one image Google is timing. In LiteSpeed Cache, add the hero image’s class or filename to the lazy-load exclusion list.
- Preload the LCP image. Many themes now do this; if yours doesn’t, add a fetchpriority=”high” attribute to the hero image.
- Replace sliders with a single static image. Sliders load several large images and heavy scripts for one visible slide.
Step 5: Fix CLS: stop the layout jumping
- Add width and height to every image so the browser reserves space. WordPress does this for media-library images; check custom HTML blocks and page builder widgets.
- Host Google Fonts locally and use font-display: swap, so text doesn’t reflow when the font arrives. Most modern themes have a setting for this.
- Reserve space for anything injected later: cookie banners, chat bubbles, embedded videos and ad slots.
Step 6: Fix INP: cut JavaScript, especially third-party scripts
INP problems are almost always caused by too much JavaScript running on the main thread.
- Audit plugins. Install Query Monitor on a staging copy and look for plugins loading scripts on every page. Deactivate anything you don’t actively use.
- Delay non-critical scripts. Chat widgets, Meta Pixel, Hotjar and similar tools don’t need to load before the visitor interacts. Delay them until the first scroll or click. Keep Google Tag Manager, but trim the tags inside it.
- Choose a lightweight theme. A lean theme such as GeneratePress, Kadence or Astra with the block editor will usually beat a heavy page builder on INP.
Step 7: Keep the database and media library lean
Over time, WordPress collects thousands of post revisions, expired transients and spam comments. Limit revisions in wp-config.php:
define( ‘WP_POST_REVISIONS’, 5 );
Then run LiteSpeed Cache’s database clean-up monthly. For WooCommerce stores, also clear old order sessions and logs.
When it’s time to upgrade your Hostinger plan
Caching solves most speed problems on shared hosting, but not all. Consider moving up if:
- hPanel’s resource usage page shows you regularly hitting CPU or process limits
- Your WooCommerce store slows down during sales, when pages can’t be cached
- Your server response time (TTFB) stays above about 800 ms even with caching on
The next step is usually Hostinger’s Cloud Startup plan, which gives your site dedicated resources while keeping the easy hPanel experience. FAQ
Why is my WordPress site slow on Hostinger shared hosting?
Usually it’s not the shared hosting itself. The most common causes we find are uncompressed images, too many plugins, a heavy page builder, and caching that isn’t enabled. Install LiteSpeed Cache, optimise images and remove unused plugins before considering an upgrade.
Which caching plugin is best for Hostinger?
LiteSpeed Cache. Hostinger’s servers run LiteSpeed, so this plugin uses server-level caching that other plugins can’t access. Use it alone and uninstall any other caching plugin to avoid conflicts.
Does Hostinger include a free CDN?
Hostinger includes its own CDN on several web hosting plans, which you can switch on in hPanel. Check your plan’s feature list. You can also use Cloudflare’s free plan with any Hostinger plan.
Are Hostinger’s WordPress hosting services good enough to pass Core Web Vitals?
Yes. Hostinger’s WordPress hosting services run on LiteSpeed servers with built-in caching, which gives a fast starting point. Most sites pass Core Web Vitals once images, scripts and caching are configured properly. Busy WooCommerce stores may need a cloud plan.
Which Hostinger web hosting plan is best for a fast WordPress site?
For a business site or blog, Premium is usually enough. For several sites or a growing WooCommerce store, choose Unlimited or Cloud Startup, which offer more resources. All Hostinger web hosting plans include LiteSpeed and free SSL.
Is there a Hostinger domain renewal coupon code?
Hostinger coupon codes, including ours, are generally for new purchases, and domain renewals are usually charged at the standard rate. To keep costs down, turn on auto-renew so you never pay a redemption fee, and check hPanel before renewal in case a renewal offer is shown. You can try 1MAYANKDOMA25 at checkout; Hostinger will apply it only if it’s valid for that order.
When do the Hostinger Black Friday deals end?
Hostinger’s Black Friday sale, called Sale Season in India, runs from 19 October to 14 December 2026 according to Hostinger’s own FAQ. Prices can change during the sale, so check the live page before buying.
